One of Europe’s largest battery recycling plants

Hydrovolt is a first mover within battery recycling with a leading market position in Norway, aiming to take a significant share of the surging European battery recycling market by 2030. We will therefore develop operational capacity at strategic collection points across Europe to meet the growth of end-of-life batteries.

Fredrikstad (NO)

Hydrovolt is running Norway’s first and one of Europe’s largest battery recycling plants based in Fredrikstad, Norway. The plant is designed for EV – and industrial batteries with a capacity of 12,000 tons battery packs equivalent to 25,000 EVs annually.

At our industrial plant in Fredrikstad, our employees are working within the departments of operations, logistics, maintenance and technology across our discharge and dismantling (D&D) facility and crushing and sorting (C&S) facility.

We are constantly growing and scaling our operations at the plant. Our D&D site is moving from one to two shifts as we commission the new production line making it the world’s most automated production line for discharging and dismantling of batteries. This line is built on the experience of our training and manual operations of the same steps in our recycling process.

Meanwhile, our fully autonomous crushing and sorting line is ramping up its production from two to three shifts, running a 24/7 production all weekdays.

One step closer to ensuring no battery is ever wasted.

Our operations run on renewable energy and residual energy from collected batteries

The plant runs on close to 100% renewable energy from the Norwegian grid, solar panels & recovered energy from the collected EV batteries in a battery storage system.

A modern production site with semi to fully autonomous production steps enables more effective and safer recycling solutions.

Hordain (FR)

In June 2024 Hydrovolt made its investment decision to expand its business in France through establishing recycling capacity located in Hordain at the heart of Northern France’s battery valley.

Based on its experience and existing recycling activities in Norway, Hydrovolt will build a similar facility for collection, discharging and dismantling of EV – and industrial batteries at the French site.

Northern France is chosen as the preferred entry region as it is a growing hub for the battery value chain. The area has already attracted four major battery gigafactory investments, much due to the region’s location, skilled workforce and industrial and automotive tradition.
